The Foundation for Anesthesiology Education and Research (FAER) has selected the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Anesthesiology as one of 26 academic anesthesiology departments nationwide to host its 2006 Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship Program.
The FAER fellowships, which provide support to both medical students and host departments for 8-12 weeks of anesthesiology-related research experience, are part of FAER's commitment to attract scientific talent to academic anesthesiology.
FAER hopes that an exposure to the specialty early in the career of medical students will plant the seed for future pursuit of research in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, a goal that aligns with the long-standing Medical Student Summer Research Program currently supported by grants from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the National Cancer Institute and the Friends of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The FAER program differs, however, in that fellowships are limited to designated Anesthesiology Department projects and faculty, and students can apply to participate at any of the hosting schools across the country. Students receive a $400 per week stipend for up to 12 weeks of full-time work and additional travel support to present at the ASA annual meeting.
The deadline for 2006 applications is Jan. 27, and awards will be announced on Feb. 17.
Application materials are available online. You can also contact Judy R. Kersten, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology, jkersten@mcw.edu, for more information about MCW offerings. posted 1/16/06 |
