Family Medicine Academic Enrichment Electives (AEE)

Welcome to the Family Medicine Academic Enrichment Electives!

Our goal is to provide early opportunities for medical students to explore the exciting and diverse possibilities offered by a career in Family Medicine. You will have direct patient care experiences and service learning opportunities through-out the year, giving you time out of the classroom to help you see the connection between the clinical environment and your basic science courses - something that can help keep you motivated during those long nights of studying!

In addition, you will be assigned a personal Family Medicine mentor and you will become part of our dynamic Learning Community; bringing together faculty and fellow students for projects and discussion.   All of these activities will be reflected in your Learning Portfolio, a computer program designed to allow you to track your clinic visits, write journal entries to reflect on experiences and even receive direct feedback from your advisor. The Learning Portfolio has many exciting possibilities, including the potential for you to expand writing or ongoing projects into publications and/or presentations.

We offer 2 longitudinal enrichment electives that run from September through May:
  • The Foundations of Family Medicine AEE  can be completed during the M1 year or the M2 year
  • The Advanced  Principals & Practice of Family Medicine AEE  can be completed after finishing the Foundations AEE and provides more of an “immersion” experience in Family Medicine.

Please see our links below for more information, including the requirements for completing the course & the application process which can be completed on this site.

We look forward to the year ahead-----please join us!!
