Academic Support Programs

To ensure academic success and completion of medical school, several academic support programs are available to all students once they matriculate at the Medical College. The Office of Student Affairs/Diversity has implemented initiatives to support your successful study here at MCW and to provide enrichment experiences. A Student Counselor is available to you for academic, personal or other counseling. An Academic and Career Development Specialist, provides tutoring in study skills, test-taking strategies and board preparation in order to ensure each students’ ability to master the basic and clinical sciences. Further information about these programs can be found on the Student Affairs website.

Summer Enrichment Programs

Academic programs are offered to local high school, resident and non-resident college level students through a series of educational pipeline programs. Sixty percent of students who participate in summer enrichment programs at the Medical College of Wisconsin go on to college, medical school or graduate studies in biomedical fields. The three programs currently offered are the Apprenticeship in Medicine (AIM), the Research Opportunity for Academic Development in Science (ROADS), and the Diversity Summer Health-related Research Education Program (DSHREP).

High School Program(s)
Apprenticeship In Medicine (AIM)
The AIM program offers 12 local high school students from diverse backgrounds, the opportunity to engage in a variety of clinical hands-on experiences. An intensive six-week program has been designed to increase awareness of common medical problems in underserved communities and career opportunities in fields of medicine. This program offers a stipend upon completion of the program.

Research Opportunity for Academic Development in Science (ROADS)
The ROADS program allows local high school students interested in science to serve as research fellows for seven weeks. Each student assists a Medical College of Wisconsin faculty investigator who acts as their mentor on a current research project. This program is designed to provide participants with a meaningful experience in a health-related field and to stimulate their interest in careers in science, medicine and biomedical research. This program offers a stipend upon completion of the program.
