THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM AT THE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF WISCONSIN
INTRODUCTION
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is a well established academic training program for physiatrists. The department is committed to creating an outstanding training program for future clinicians, academicians, and rehabilitation leaders. We have a large integrated program involving three major teaching hospitals, the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Administration Hospital, the Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
The department has trained over 150 physiatrists during the last fifty years, and we currently have 15 residency positions. The current cadre of residents consists of bright and enthusiastic physicians, with strong motivation to excel. A major strength of the training program is the collegiality demonstrated by both residents and faculty who openly support each other, work well together, and actively participate in a wide variety of clinical, educational, and research opportunities.
We are constantly striving to improve our didactic offerings, further our resident education, and push the bounds of knowledge for our field. The Department consists of 26 faculty members who are committed to teaching residents and medical students in the principles and practices of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Together with the strong commitment of all faculty members, we have worked closely with our residents to develop and refine our offerings. We have an excellent program that is responsive to the changing healthcare environment while preserving the primary mission of educating outstanding residents. Residents in PM&R at the Medical College of Wisconsin have significant input into how the program is structured. In contrast to some larger, relatively rigid programs, we are flexible, constantly creating new learning opportunities, and considerate of the challenges of being a resident.
