Department of Radiology

Division of Informatics

Charles E. Kahn, Jr., MD, MS, Professor and Division Chief

The Division of Informatics is responsible for strategic planning, implementation, and ongoing operation of information systems in the Department of Radiology.  Informatics faculty conduct basic and applied research in the application of information technology to medicine, and provide education to medical students and graduate students in medical informatics.

The Division of Informatics -- together with the Decision Systems and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee -- founded the Medical Informatics and Decision Science (MIDAS) Consortium.  Since 1995, the MIDAS Consortium has conducted research and supported education in medical informatics and decision science.

Informatics Research

An active, multidisciplinary research program includes next-generation RIS and PACS, radiology decision support systems, Internet-based systems, and just-in-time learning.

Information Technology

The Division of Informatics plans, implements, and provides operational support for the Department of Radiology's clinical information systems, including RIS, PACS, and hospital information systems.

Education in Informatics

We support graduate and undergraduate educational programs in medical informatics.

Support

We acknowledge the organizations that have supported the Division's research activities.
