Alumni Profile

Blythe Janowiak, PhD, joins the St. Louis University faculty after receiving her PhD from the Department of Biochemistry and her postdoctoral training from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Janowiak's research as a graduate student at MCW was under the mentorship of Owen Griffith, PhD, Professor of Biochemistry.  In the course of her research, she helped to discover a novel bifunctional enzyme in the pathogen Group B Streptococcus. The enzyme, involved in stress resistance in the bacteria, has potential to be a viable drug target.  During her doctoral work, she received an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship. She presented her work at two international meetings, receiving recognition at both of them in the form of a poster award and a travel award. She was first author of two publications and co-author of two publications in relation to her graduate work.
