Division of General Internal Medicine
Fellowship Training Program

The Division of GIM supports an Academic GIM Fellowship Training program funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and a National Research Service Award. The fellowship is a two-year program. The primary mission of the fellowship program is to prepare trainees for a successful career in academic GIM in either the clinician educator or clinician investigator track. Fellows are encouraged to pursue an advanced academic degree in clinical epidemiology, bioethics, or medical informatics. The pillars of the fellowship program include the following:

  1. obtaining the skills and experience required to conduct clinical research,
  2. participation in a nationally funded and recognized faculty development program,
  3. gaining experience in clinical teaching, and
  4. working closely with a GIM faculty-mentor.

Graduating fellows most often pursue academic careers in Divisions of GIM as either clinician-educators or clinician-investigators. More information about the MCW fellowship can be found on the SGIM website.
