Connect from Off-CampusConnect from Off Campus to MCW Libraries

The Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries offers a comprehensive network of databases for searching. Electronic resources include over 60 databases, thousands of  full-text e-journals, and hundreds of e-books.

Ways to connect from off campus

1) MCW Network
If you are at the
Medical College, Children's or Froedtert, no additional steps are necessary to access library resources. Medical College faculty and staff located at the VA need to use the library' proxy server (see instructions below).

2) External Internet Service Providers
Many library resources are restricted to the MCW Network address. If you are using a high-speed connection such as Road Runner and wish to use library resources you will need to use the library's proxy server.  See more information about the proxy server

3) Citrix
Users on the MCW secured network may or may not be eligible for a Citrix account. See your department administrator. Client download is required. For more information, visit the Support area of the Information Services Web site.

About MCW Libraries' Proxy Server

Many MCW Libraries resources (e-journals, e-books, and databases) are restricted to the MCW network address (IP address). Users connecting to library resources with outside Internet service providers such as Road Runner need to use the library's proxy server

Which resources are available to MCW, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin or Froedtert Hospital users through the proxy server?
Thousands of e- journals, e-books, databases, and the College's intranet, InfoScope, are all available through the proxy server. The UpToDate vendor license, however, does not allow access through the Library's proxy server.

Who should use the proxy server?
MCW users and authorized Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital users who are connecting to the College with an outside Internet provider, users who are using a cable modem from home, or users whose workplace is NOT part of the MCW network (such as the VA Hospital or the BloodCenter of Wisconsin).

Who does not need to use the proxy server?
MCW users within the campus network – faculty and staff in the Medical Education Building, the Health Research Center, the MACC Fund building, Children's Hospital, Children's Corporate Center,  Froedtert Hospital, and Research Park Center - while they are at work or connected via into MCW's modem bank do not need to use the proxy server.

What are the requirements?
MCW Employees must have a valid Remote Access account. Remote Access (ACS) accounts are maintained by MCW's Information Services. Apply online for a Remote Access account.

Please note: The Information Services Web site and Remote Access (ACS) account application are on restricted, internal Medical College Web sites so you'll need to be on campus when you apply. Call Information Services at (414) 955-4357 if you cannot access the online form.

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin employees and Froedtert Hospital employees must have a valid library bar code and PIN to access the proxy server. To obtain the library bar code and PIN you must apply in person with your I.D. Badge at any of the three MCW Libraries: Todd Wehr, Froedtert or Children's.

How do I connect to the proxy server?
Go to login.proxy.lib.mcw.edu. Use your Remote Access login and password or library bar code and PIN.
