Aural Rehabilitation

The aural rehabilitation program is provided for patients who use hearing aids and/or cochlear implants. The program is designed to help these patients improve their ability to understand speech and communicate effectively during activities of daily living. Services are provided by a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist.  An initial evaluation is conducted in preparation of an individualized program.  Services are intended to enhance the benefit of and optimize patient satisfaction with their hearing aids/implant.  These services will include a discussion of the patient’s hearing loss, appropriated expectations for hearing aid use, as well as strategies to improve hearing and communication.  A spouse or significant other is encouraged to attend these sessions; other family members are invited as well. Many patients will benefit from just one session, however additional sessions may be appropriate and recommended.
