Laura Cassidy received an MS in Biostatistics and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Pittsburgh and is currently an Associate Professor in the Institute for Health and Society, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Surgery. Her research interests include pediatric surgical outcomes, trauma, registry development in addition to identification and evaluation of risk factors and treatment of pediatric patients. She is also the Director of the PhD Program in Public and Community Health.

Kirsten Beyer received her PhD in Geography and her MPH in Global Health from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She is a health geographer and uses Geographic Information Science (GISc), epidemiological and qualitative approaches to investigate the role of place context in shaping health. Specifically, she is interested in the differential contextual influences associated with urban versus rural settings, implications of place context for health-related behaviors, and spatially-aware approaches to defining the geographical neighborhood for the purposes of multilevel explorations of health risk. Her work has focused on cancer, environmental health, maternal and child health, and violence. In addition, she has a strong interest in the role of community engagement in research and teaching.

Tom Chelius received his MS in Mathematics from Marquette University and a MS in Biostatistics from the Medical College of Wisconsin.  He has worked on various research projects including hypertension in inner-city African-Americans, the role of hospital characteristics in predicting lymphedema in breast cancer patients, and the Women's Health Initiative.  He has also served as coordinator for the Clinical Research Scholars Program, a career development program for junior faculty members who wish to become independently funded investigators.
