Each year, there are approximately 300,000 victims of severe traumatic shock or head injury that occur in the United States. Half of these people die, causing 150,000 deaths per year. Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death in people aged 1 to 44. In Milwaukee County, there are about 371 victims of severe traumatic shock or head injury each year.
