Contract & Benefits Information

Residents are employed by the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (MCWAH) and all housestaff receive an excellent comprehensive benefits package.

Stipend levels for the academic year beginning July 1, 2012

 

 PG I     $54,100

 PG II    $55,100

 PG III  $55,900

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The benefit package includes:

Professional liability insurance, health and dental insurance, life and accidental death coverage, long-term disability, accident insurance for rotations outside the US, and pre-tax deduction for child-care expenses.

Residents receive three weeks of paid vacation per year in addition to scheduled conference time. 

Additional programs include on campus day care, sick leave, family and medical leave, and a resident spouse association.

The Working Condition Fringe Benefit is a $1,500 per academic year taxable payment to housestaff to help defray expenses for license fees, DEA fees, license exam fees and text books. Housestaff are not required to submit receipts to claim this benefit.

Housestaff that complete training mid-academic year will be paid a pro-rated amount on their last paycheck. The benefit will be paid in two $750 installments; one on December 31 and one on June 30. The $1,500 payment is a taxable benefit.

 

Educational Allowances

Time off from all clinical duties is scheduled each year to allow second year residents to attend ACEP and for third year residents to attend AAEM

Time off from all clinical duties is scheduled for EM2 residents to attend the ACEP conference

Time off from all clinical duties is scheduled for EM3 residents to attend the AAEM conference

Annual resident retreat when faculty members cover all ED shifts

Money towards iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch for each resident at the beginning of the program

The following courses are paid for through the residency program

  • ACLS
  • ATLS
  • PALS

 

Book and Travel Allowances

EM1: $400 book fund

EM2: $200 book fund, $1,500 conference fund

EM3: $200 book fund, $1,500 conference fund
