Professor of Medicine Department of Medicine Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Clinical Nutrition
Dr. Ahmed Kissebah is Professor of Medicine and Director of the TOPS Obesity and Metabolic Research Center in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Clinical Nutrition at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Kissebah is an internationally recognized expert in the field of obesity and diabetes. He has been researching obesity and its health risks for more than 25 years and is committed to understanding the genetic basis of this complex disease.
In 2000, MCW researchers in collaboration with the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research and TOPS Club, Inc, a non-profit weight loss organization, made the landmark discovery that an area on chromosome 3 was associated with all the fundamental features of obesity, and that a network of genes must control these features. Dr. Kissebah has since published papers on 3 major genes involved in this network and is currently conducting clinical research studies involving 500 Midwestern families and their children.
