Kay Czaplewski is a clinical nurse specialist in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Clinical Nutrition. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Marquette University and obtained her Master of Science degree in nursing from Alverno College. She is board certified from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in both Advanced Diabetes Management and Gerontology, and has additional certification from the National Board for Diabetes Educators as a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is an advisor for the State of Wisconsin Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, and is a member of the Diabetes Self-Management Program Steering Committee of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging. She is a board member of the Southeastern Wisconsin Association of Diabetes Educators and provides Resident education of diabetes management for the MCW Ambulatory Immersion Rotation.

Ms. Czaplewski is an integral member of the Liver, Pancreas, and Bile Duct Cancer Program in the Clinical Cancer Center, where she provides expert management of diabetes in patients diagnosed and treated for pancreatic carcinoma. She stresses a collaborative approach to care that involves shared and informed decision making with her patients, and she works closely with colleagues in nutrition to ensure a coordinated multidisciplinary plan of care for her patients.

Ms. Czaplewski’s clinical practice also includes treatment of patients with early and advanced forms of diabetes, including type 1, type 2, steroid-induced, and gestational diabetes mellitus. Before joining the Division of Endocrinology, Kay worked as a Certified Diabetes Educator at Froedtert Hospital for many years, and is able to provide the full breadth of patient instruction for successful management of these diseases. She gives numerous diabetes presentations and participates in many volunteer and community service activities.
