Physicians Assistant, Diabetes Management Team

I received my Bachelor of Science as a Physician Assistant from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982 and have maintained Physician Assistant Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) since that time. I have had a variety of health care settings including working in Internal Medicine Solo Practice, Civil Service Health Care, HMO, Emergency Room, and Urgent Care Clinics prior to joining Medical College of Wisconsin in 2007. I currently work with the Diabetes Management Team on provision of insulin scales for patients.
Being a Type 1 Diabetic, my interest is to empower diabetic patients in-order to allow them the ability to anticipate the effects of their actions on their health conditions and the skills to adjust both their life styles or Medication algorithms to maintain a high quality of life. My view is that the patient has to be an active participant in the care of their condition, since they have to live with that condition 24/7. As a provider, I function as a resource for them and monitor their abilities of self management at periodic intervals and to recommend adjustments for acute conditions.
