Based upon a long-standing tradition of chief resident leadership development, an updated, one-day Leadership Course for Family Practice Chief Resident is held each year that focuses on essential skills that chief residents require to be successful.
Chiefs who attend this course acquire new skills to enhance their effectiveness as residency program leaders. Chiefs learn and apply practical skills and tested leadership models while building their network of colleagues.

Course faculty members are residency program directors and family medicine faculty. The list of 2009 faculty presenters includes William Geiger, MD, Mike Mazzone, MD, Kevin Izard, MD, Beth Damitz, MD, Tiffany Dobbs, MD and Alan K. David, MD. Invited guest faculty have included Larry Pheifer, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Academy of Family Practice, and UW residency faculty.
