Global Affiliation Agreements


There are several faculty with established affiliation agreements for their global health partnerships and others currently are in development. View our global health affiliations (PDF) for a listing of signed formal affiliation agreements with the Medical College of Wisconsin and local/global partners that have a long-term relationship with MCW faculty and include two or more departments in their global health efforts.


Global Health Program Facilitated Signed Agreements

Shanghai Institute of Health Sciences
Shanghai, China

The purpose of this Affiliation Agreement is to combine efforts of the Parties and to stimulate scientific cooperation and strengthen research, teaching and patient care, broaden the international experiences, and promote cross-cultural knowledge and understanding among the Parties’ faculty, staff and trainees.


University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine
Rijeka, Croatia
November 2013-present

Over the last 25 years, Dr. Zeljko Bosnjak has been an advisor to numerous postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, medical students, and residents from Croatia. The Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Professor Alan Šustić, M.D., Ph. D. is a long-term colleague of Dr. Bosnjak. The goal of this affiliation agreement is to formalize the long-term partnership Dr. Bosjnak has had and to explore additional ways to strengthen academic partnerships while improving health care and services in Rijeka, Croatia.


Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Institute of Gastroscience

Dr. Kulwinder Dua has been collaborating with the Director, Dr. Goenka for nearly 10 years and has visited his hospital. He has provided over 50 lectures on various GI disorders and provided clinical care advising on complex cases across India for over 17 years. The goal of this affiliation agreement is to formalize the long-term partnership Dr. Dua has had and to explore additional ways to strengthen academic partnerships while improving health care and services in India.


Peruvian Instituto Nacional de Salud & Yantalo Peru Foundation
Lima, Peru

A general MCW institutional agreement was signed on June 1, 2011 with the Yantalo Foundation, a global partner of Dr. North’s for over two years.  Since then, Dr. North has recruited multidisciplinary faculty to address the health needs of the communities the Yantalo Peru Foundation serves. There are MCW faculty collaborators from surgery, pediatrics, urology and pathology.  This new agreement further formalizes Dr. North’s Yantalo Peru Foundation partnership to include the Peruvian NIH (INS).
 


La Corporación Medica Monte Sinaí
Cuenca, Ecuador
November 2012-present

In 2011, Dr. Dua was selected by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) as their Ambassador to teach and mentor international physicians at the highest level of GI endoscopic care. La Corporación Medica Monte Sinaí, La Universidad Estatal De Cuenca was selected as the 2011 awardee and Dr. Dua spent one week there in November. He provided several lectures on endoscopy related topics and provided clinical care advising. Dr. Dua would like Monte Sinai faculty to visitor our campus to observe advanced techniques to strengthen their gastroenterology knowledge and clinical skills and to travel to Cuenca and perform and train locally other Monte Sinai faculty in advanced procedures.


Universidad Nacional Nicaragua Managua
Managua, Nicaragua

Dr. Schwab and a multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic and physical therapy services have been attending to Nicaraguan children and adults and partnering with governmental and non-profit institutions in-country for nearly 11 years. His team goes to Nicaragua twice a year to partner with the Nicaragua Ministry of Health to improve child and adult health.  The purpose of this Affiliation Agreement is to combine efforts of these partners and to stimulate scientific cooperation and strengthen research, teaching and patient care, broaden the international experiences, and promote cross-cultural knowledge and understanding among MCW and UNAN faculty and staff.


Catholic University of Santiago Guayaquil
Guayaquil, Ecuador

Dr. Suster is an alumni and member of their 2ndgraduating class and has retained professional relationship with his alma mater since graduating by providing visiting professor lectures and hosting pathology residents on our medical campus for short term observerships. Dr. Suster would like to formalize his long-term relationship with this institution.  The Department of Pathology would like to continue to host residents and faculty from this institution on our campus for short-term educational experiences.  This initial partnership will start with our Department of Pathology and may extend to other disciplines/departments at MCW and The Catholic University.


Midas Multispecialty Hospital
Nagpur, Maharashtra, India

The goal of this affiliation agreement is to formalize the long-term partnership Dr. Kulwinder Dua a professor in the Department of Medicine at MCW has had with Midas. Under this agreement, MCW medical students and Gastroenterology and Hepatology residents would be invited to rotate there for one-month electives.  Additionally, Dr. Dua would like to sponsor Midas faculty on our campus to observe advanced endoscopy techniques and supervise hands-on training locally at their Institute to strengthen their gastroenterology knowledge and clinical skills.


Hillside Healthcare International
Punta Gorda, Belize
July 2012-present

Dr. Jacquelyn Kuzminski (Nohl) has been volunteering with Hillside since she was a medical student. Her family members are the founding directors of Hillside and she is currently on the board of directors. Pediatric residents will also rotate at Hillside and this agreement secures 10 annual spots for MCW medical students. This agreement does not include reciprocal exchanges and therefore, neither staff nor clinicians from Belize will rotate on our campus.


University of Minnesota (UMN), Global Health Online Course
Twin Cities, Minnesota
June 2012-present

The primary goal of the UMN Online Global Health course is to provide accessible educational material to individuals concerned about and motivated to decrease health disparities that disproportionately affect disenfranchised populations. Dr. William Stauffer, UMN director has presented MCW the opportunity to affiliate with this course and have the opportunity to utilize the curriculum content for the development of our course.

The purpose of this agreement is to combine efforts of the Parties and to stimulate scientific cooperation and strengthen research, teaching and patient care, broaden the international experiences, and promote cross-cultural knowledge and understanding among students, faculty and staff of Xinhua, Center for International Health and MCW.


Andean Health & Development

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc.

The purpose of this Agreement is to provide learning and practical experiences for the students of MCW who are enrolled in the Master of Public Health program and to establish and operate education programs at the site.


Yantalo Peru Foundation
Yantalo, Peru

The Yantalo Peru Foundation is very active in hosting MCW medical students, residents and faculty in the Peruvian Amazon. The Yantalo Clinic & Diagnostic Center, currently under construction will be a center for service, teaching, training and research, with unique opportunities to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases not seen frequently in non-tropical areas. Drs. Keith Oldham, Chief of Pediatric Surgery and Paula North, Chief of Pathology are strong supporters of this ongoing international exchange program.

Faculty Facilitated Signed Agreements

Comenius University in Bratislava
Bratislava, the Slovak Republic

The purpose of this Agreement for faculty at Comenius and MCW to pursue common interests in improving research and development in genomic, molecular biology and biochemistry of the most widely spread diseases (e.g. cancer, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases).


Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
Technion City, Haifa, Israel

The purpose of this Agreement is to provide learning experiences for the medical students of Technion and MCW and to establish and operate education programs at both institutions.


University of the Philippines School of Medicine
Manila, Philippines
March 2009-present

Drs. Michael Kron and Richard Olds has collectively over 30 years of experience in the Philippines. Dr. Kron holds an adjunct appointment in the University of Philippines Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The purpose of this agreement is to provide international research and clinical electives for MCW students, residents, fellows and staff/faculty.
