The Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center at The Medical College of Wisconsin is dedicated to the development and application of novel, leading-edge technology in biomedical research. The Center has eight major areas of focus, each with an emphasis on the application and transfer of technology:
The Center is currently home to a national center - the Wisconsin Center of Excellence in Genomics Science (CEGS).
In the Innovation Center for Proteomics Research Development, originally developed as a second national center, Medical College faculty are developing new technologies to understand the critical role proteins play in health and disease.
CEGS The Wisconsin Center of Excellence in Genomics Science is based in the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center. The Wisconsin genomics center is a joint effort among The Medical College of Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Marquette University, and is coordinated by The Medical College of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Center of Excellence in Genomics Science is one of the elite groups in the nation established and funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health. The Wisconsin Center team will focus on developing novel technologies for the comprehensive analysis of proteins that bind to DNA.
Innovation Center The community outreach activities of the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center (BBC) are centralized in the Innovation Center created by a generous gift from the Kern Family. Here BBC faculty work with students throughout the region, ranging from high school through graduate school, to help them better understand how technology innovation impacts biomedical research.
