"I started the PhD program in the Department of Physiology at MCW after having exposure to the program as an undergraduate engineering student. Working with Dr. Andrew Greene as my primary advisor, I studied the regulation of cerebral blood flow on a multidisciplinary project involving physiology and biophysics. Although my education in physiology was excellent, and the scientific principles and techniques broadened my skill set beyond engineering, some of the most important skills I learned were related to interacting with, and mentoring, others. The environment at MCW provided a great example of faculty, staff and students working together to achieve shared goals. Within this environment I was able to mentor several summer students, tutor graduate and medical students, and participate in community education programs. These experiences convinced me that undergraduate education was the best career fit for me. The interpersonal skills I learned at MCW have served me well as an educational program director and faculty leader at my current institution."
