The Koss Hearing and Balance Center provides the identification, evaluation, and treatment of hearing and balance disorders. The audiologists are professionals who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of people with hearing loss and/or balance disorders. They have a masters or doctoral degree in the field of Audiology and hold a state license in Audiology. Our audiologists are capable of dispensing a wide variety of hearing aids and assistive listening devices.

 

Facts About Hearing Loss

  • More than 28 million Americans (10% of the population) have some degree of hearing loss.
  • One out of every 4 persons aged 65 and older has hearing loss.
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) may be a symptom of hearing loss or other auditory disorder.
  • 95% of those suffering from hearing loss can be helped with hearing aids.
  • 100% of children will experience a temporary hearing loss due to ear infections or fluid at least one time before age 18.
  • Accurate automated screenings are available to test newborns and infants. Six out of every 1,000 births have hearing loss.
  • The most common complaint to any physician is a patient reporting some type of balance disturbance.
  • 42% of adults suffer with some sort of balance problem at some point in time.
  • 17% of the worlds population suffers from tinnitus (ringing/buzzing in the head or ear).

  • Cholesteatoma/Infection
  • Otosclerosis
  • Meniere's disease

  • Ototoxic medications
  • Viral infections
  • Tumors and other space occupying lesions

Children Hearing Loss

  • Otitis Media (middle ear infection)
  • Craniofacial abnormalities (congenital) 
  • Family history of hearing loss
  • Congenital infection 
  • Bacterial meningitis
  • Head trauma
  • Ototoxic medications
  • Childhood infectious disease (mumps, measles
