Head & Neck Cancer Support Group Meeting

Meeting Details

Life after being diagnosed with head and neck cancer can be a difficult journey. People with cancer are affected in a variety of ways - personal, professional, physical, emotional, and financial. Those with head and neck cancer are particularly susceptible to the physical and emotional toll of the disease. Many individuals struggle to meet their nutritional needs, and have difficulty speaking, managing their pain, and coping with physical deformity. It can be tough to deal with these challenges or to discuss these issues with even the most supportive family member or friend. Many people find themselves feeling alone and isolated.

Cancer support groups are designed to provide a private setting where patients and/or survivors can discuss the challenges of this disease with others who are or have had similar experiences. It provides a wonderful setting to exchange information about the disease, including practical solutions to improving nutrition, managing side effects, and handling the demands  of work and home during and after treatment.

To meet the special needs of our patients, we've formed this new head and neck cancer support group. The meetings will be held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Since family, friends, and significant others play an important role in our lives, we encourage them to also attend.

Speech pathologists, nurses, and nutritionists will help facilitate the support group. Educational topics will be discussed and we hope to assist with individual problem solving. The goal is to help each patient navigate the treatment process and get back to the business of living a fulfilling life.
