     Project End Date: 4/30/2008

Project Goal Statement: This project aims to reduce the prevalence of obesity and overweight in Ashland, Bayfield, Iron, Price and Sawyer counties.  The project uses a multi-faceted approach and evidence-based interventions to change the social norms to support good nutrition and increase physical activity.  Each county will develop a comprehensive community action plan that coordinates with local school districts, community centers, churches, employers, and local government to improve fitness and increase nutrition.  Ongoing evaluation is an integral part of this project.

    • The Bay Area Health Education Coalition held a number of health-related community workshops
    • Developed and distributed the Community Lakewalk brochure in Ashland County
    • Developed brochures for the Walk in Phillips program in Price County
    • Developed a child obesity toolkit and distributed to local clinics, child care providers and families
    • Developed display boards presenting information on balanced nutrition and physical activity that were displayed in 20 sites throughout Price County
    • Developed and distributed educational CD-ROMs to all elementary teachers in Prentice, Phillips, Park Falls, Butternut and Glidden school districts
