Community-Level Consequences of Uninsurance: Why the Covered Should Care
The 10th annual Robert and June Becker Health Policy Lecture will be held Monday, May 5, at 4 p.m. in Health Research Center rooms H1210-H1230 at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The keynote speaker will be Arthur Kellermann, MD, MPH,Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Kellermann will give a presentation titled, Community-Level Consequences of Uninsurance: Why the Covered Should Care. Until 2007, he served as founding Chair of the Emergency Medicine Department and founding director of the Center for Injury Control at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University. Step Forward Together: 2008 Public Health Partners Conference July 22- 24, 2008
This conference theme highlights the need for ongoing attention to the public health system by strengthening partnerships among the unique network of individuals, agencies, and organizations that work to improve the health of the public. Conference activities will provide attendees with information, skills, and resources to help them improve public health in their communities. The conference will also provide time for attendees to learn and share information on critical public health issues. Presented by: National Association of Local Boards of Health, Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards, & Wisconsin Public Health Association. Wisconsin Public Health Council
Wisconsin Act 186 created a Public Health Council to advise the Governor, the Legislature, the Department and the public on progress in implementing the State Health Plan as well as the coordination of responses to public health emergencies. The council meets every other month on the second Friday of the month. All meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas and minutes are posted on the Council's web site.

Healthy People 2010 is the prevention agenda for the Nation. It is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats.
Healthiest Wisconsin 2010: A Partnership Plan to Improve the Health of the Public, is the Wisconsin state health plan publication for the decade 2000-2010, including a summary of the vision, mission, goals, objectives and priorities for the public health system partnership through 2010.

- Healthiest Wisconsin 2010: An Implementation Plan
Healthiest Wisconsin 2010: An Implementation Plan to Improve the Health of the Public--Implementation Plan Summary (June 2005). This publication summarizes the Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 Implementation Plan developed by 16 broadly based teams of community partners. It lists the Plan's specific objectives for each priority and selected action steps to achieve those objectives. - Wisconsin Public Health Council
This site advises the Department of Health and Family Services, the Governor, the Legislature and the public on progress in implementing the state's 10-year public health plan and coordination of responses to public health emergencies. The Guide to Community Preventive Services new for clinicians is a valuable resource providing further information on the State Health Plan.

- Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 Mapping Project: Point-in-time maps are now available that link the 16 Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 priorities to local community priorities as identified by health officers in Wisconsin's 94 local health departments. Also available are documents that describe the methodology, graphs that show the distribution regionally and statewide, and a PowerPoint presentation that can be adapted to local needs.
- Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 Partnership Survey: This database contains information about local partnerships reported by local health officers regarding the characteristics of the partnerships that their health departments had with local entities as of November 2004. While this is not a complete list of all partnerships between health departments and their communities in Wisconsin, the database serves as a "snap-shot" in time. This database was created to (1) help local and regional public health staff learn and share information about existing partnerships and collaborations throughout the state, (2) help local and regional staff identify possible entities for partnership, and (3) create and build upon this database as partnerships grow and change.

- Evidence-Based Practices for Healthiest Wisconsin 2010:
This site can help you and communities decide which prevention strategies will work to improve the community's health. It was developed by the Department in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to encourage the use of evidence-based practices in the implementation of Healthiest Wisconsin 2010, the state health plan. Evidence-based practices outlined on the site were identified by examining review articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and findings from expert consensus panels.
- Tracking Health Conditions—Wisconsin State Health Plan 2010:
This data query module provides state, regional, and county-level data on the priority health conditions that were identified in Healthiest Wisconsin 2010, the state health plan. This Web site reflects ongoing DHFS efforts to improve dissemination of local data to assist communities in tracking progress on measures related to health.
Aurora Health Care Community Health Surveys
This web site reports results from a comprehensive survey of the health status and habits of eastern Wisconsin residents, conducted by Aurora Health Care and 30 local health departments.
Rural Healthy People 2010
Rural Healthy People 2010 includes rural-specific information such as data, references and best practices/models. The documents are produced by the federal Office of Rural Health Policy and the Southwest Rural Health Research Center at the School of Rural Public Health at the Texas A & M University Health Science System.
IMPACT, Inc. 2-1-1
IMPACT's mission is to change lives. For good. The Report Card to the Community provides a 2-1-1 Community Assessment Report designed to analyze data collected and profile that data relative to community indicators such as demographic, economic, public sector, and social and health trends.

This center provides information on a variety of rural-focused health sources, including, but not limited to, mapping, tribal health, public health, and adult social services.
Compass
The Milwaukee Community Mapping and Analysis for Safety Strategies (COMPASS) Project is a federally-funded initiative that aims to build and support collaborative efforts to improve and sustain cities. This tool allows individuals the chance to learn more about individual or multiple Census Tracts and how they relate as a whole to the City of Milwaukee with topics covering Demographics, Housing and Community Development, Quality of Life, Education, Crime and Neighborhood Vitality, among many others. The report produces vast amounts of information obtained from various City of Milwaukee departments, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Milwaukee Police Department. Go to www.milwaukee.gov/compass Click on 'Community Mapping' application. Read and Agree to the disclaimer. Select maps you would like to see by clicking on the box next to the map name.
Healthy Birth Outcomes: Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities
The Department of Health and Family Services is implementing a five-year action plan to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in birth outcomes. As "Healthy Birth Outcomes: Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities" progresses, this site will link to important information for health care providers, researchers and the public on how to achieve healthy births for all Wisconsin families.

The Mental Health Association (MHA) promotes the rights and well being of people with a mental illness. Their mission is to promote mental health, prevent mental disorders, and achieve victory over mental illness through advocacy, education, information and support. Essentially, MHA is an association that provides information about mental illness to individuals, professional organizations and the community.

GuideStar National Database of Non-Profit Organizations
This web site is a resource that connects donors, grant makers, and nonprofit agencies with information about charitable organizations, philanthropic issues, the grant writing process and the effective practices of the nonprofit world.
The following three Wisconsin centers are free and public collection sites of current information on private foundations, philanthropy, and nonprofit organization and management. They provide a public source of factual information on private foundations and philanthropy in the United States, including large collections of material to assist grant seekers with fundraising, and letter and proposal writing.
Donors Forum of Wisconsin
Donors Forum of Wisconsin is a member of the Giving Forum, the national organization representing 28 regional associations of grant makers that exist across the United States. The organization provides limited service in the area of information, referral and proposal writing workshops for nonprofit organizations seeking grants. The web site provides easy linkage to grantwriting tips, community foundations, and other resources.

Guide to Community Preventive Services
The Guide to Community Preventive Services (Community Guide) serves as a filter for scientific literature on specific health problems that can be large, inconsistent, uneven in quality, and even inaccessible. The Community Guide summarizes what is known about the effectiveness, economic efficiency, and feasibility of interventions to promote community health and prevent disease. The Community Guide is being developed by a, non-Federal Task Force on Community Preventive Services (Task Force), appointed by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
