Welcome to the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.

Cancer touches everyone in our community, and for many, the impact is devastating.  Research cures cancer, and cancer is the top strategic priority of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Our mission is to uncover the causes of cancer through scientific research, and to translate this knowledge into effective treatment of cancer patients.  We are dedicated to to reducing the cancer burden through innovative research into its causes, prevention, early detection and treatment. We do this by integrating basic science, translational and clinical research with patient care and professional and community education, with an emphasis on reaching underserved populations.

We are a network of cancer experts, investigators, clinicians, research programs, equipment, facilities, and resources--an overarching organization that connects all cancer-related activities and represents the collective cancer effort at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The Cancer Center is the virtual hub of cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin, providing leadership, knowledge, support and resources to cancer investigators and clinicians.

This integrated partnership is comprised of cancer research scientists and physicians at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center, and the BloodCenter of Wisconsin. The Cancer Center is comprised of more than 200 physicians and scientists and is the only academic cancer center in Wisconsin’s most populous region. We support this unique population of more than 2.3 million people, many of whom are underserved.

The MCW Cancer Center is the only center of its type in Southeastern Wisconsin.  We make a difference in the lives of cancer patients, now, and in the future.  The MCW Cancer Center is devoted to translating research into patient care and into the community.

Patient Care

Cancer Center is unique in Southeastern Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer care, education, research and service. Established in 1984, the Cancer Center is the only academic center in Southeastern Wisconsin devoted to basic science and clinical cancer research. It is a primary source of new and potentially life-saving treatments.

We have more than 200 members – physicians and scientists – involved in more than 140 clinical trials, giving their patients access to the most innovative diagnosis and treatment protocols available. Our investigators publish roughly 100 scientific papers annually in major medical journals.

Divisions and partners include the Froedtert & Medical College Clinical Cancer Center, the Midwest Children's Cancer Center at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, cancer care and research programs at the Zablocki VA Medical Center and Blood Research Institute at the Blood Center of Wisconsin.

Program Rankings

The Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center has received the highest level of approval available as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program. The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons awarded the approval. Receiving approval indicates voluntary dedication to providing optimum care of cancer patients, including research and access to clinical trials.

Of its 250-member institutions, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group ranked the Medical College of Wisconsin 4th, ahead of several other widely known institutions, for the enrollment of patients in radiation therapy cancer clinical trials in 2006. This ranking is significant because it recognizes the Medical College of Wisconsin as a national leader in the availability and utilization of advanced clinical trials for patients with cancer.
