Medical College of Wisconsin Invites Subscribers For its Next Women in Science Luncheon Series

March 28 - The Medical College of Wisconsin is offering another season of its popular Women in Science subscription luncheon series. The series offers the public an opportunity to meet outstanding female faculty scientists and physicians, learn firsthand about their timely leading-edge research and make a contribution to science.

Subscribers will hear two compelling presentations by researchers, have an opportunity to lunch with a female physician or researcher, gain insight into the qualities that inspire these women, and tour the Medical College.  Events will include:

  • Breast Cancer: What Treatment Do Women Prefer?, presented by Ann B. Nattinger, MD, MPH, Lady Riders Professor of Breast Cancer Research Thursday, May 29. Do women prefer mastectomies to lumpectomies when faced with breast cancer? Sponsored by Mr. Robert O. Hudson and Mrs. Katherine M. Hudson: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Woman's Club of Wisconsin, 813 East Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee

  • Patient Power: Giving Diabetics the Tools to Take Control, presented by Edith A. Burns, MD, associate professor of medicine in geriatrics, Thursday, Sept. 25. Do patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes have the right self-management tools? Sponsored by Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc. 11:30-a.m. -1:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin.

  • Women Pioneers in Research Awards Event, Thursday, Oct. 30, presentation of the Women Pioneers in Research Awards: a $10,000 research award, and the $1,000 Edward J. Lennon, MD Award for an outstanding woman postdoctoral researcher. Series subscribers will dine with a faculty physician or scientist at each table. Sponsored by Quarles & Brady: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Medical College, 8701 Watertown Plank Rd., with optional tours at 1:30 p.m.

Series subscriptions are available for a suggested minimum donation of $250 to help to support annualawards for promising woman scientists, and include:

  • Admission to all three events, with luncheon, beverages and free parking provided

  • Presentations and ample time for questions and networking.

  • Reminders and advance notice of other Medical College lectures and events.
