His Residency in Internal Medicine was done at the University of Illinois Hospitals and Clinics, and his Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was a Medical Staff Fellow at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD.

He did his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
