John S. Shiely
John S. Shiely, Chairman Emeritus of Briggs & Stratton Corporation, joined the company in 1986 as General Counsel, was elected Vice President and General Counsel in 1990, Executive Vice President - Administration in 1991, President in 1994, CEO in 2001, and Chairman in 2003. Mr. Shiely is a director of BMO Financial Corp. (Harris Bank); The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company; Quad/Graphics, Inc.; and serves on the corporate board of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. He is active in civic and professional organizations, including service as a member of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of Children’s Hospital Foundation., a member of the Board of Regents of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, a trustee of the Medical College of Wisconsin, a member of the Trustees of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and a member of the Governor’s Council on Workforce Investment. Mr. Shiely co-authored the book The EVA Challenge: Implementing Value-Added Change in an Organization, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Mr. Shiely received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame, a Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School, and a Master of Management from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He also studied corporate governance at Harvard Law School.
