Q: What is the proxy login?
A: It is a way to allow authorized users to access restricted library resources from off-campus.
Q: Who are authorized users?
A: Patrons in the following groups:
-
MCW faculty, staff, students, residents and post docs
-
Volunteer Clinical Faculty who have been approved by the Office of Faculty Affairs
-
Adjunct Faculty who have been approved by the Office of Faculty Affairs
-
Emeritus Faculty who have been approved by the Office of Faculty Affairs
-
Froedtert staff holding an ID from “Froedtert & Community Health“
-
Dynacare Staff who have a Froedtert Hospital ID Badge with a red bar on the bottom of the badge and Dynacare printed on the badge
-
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin staff with one of the following logos on their ID Badge
-
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
-
Children's Hospital and Health System
-
Children's Research Institute
-
Blood Research Institute staff who have been officially approved by MCW research faculty at the BRI
-
Joint degree (MCW-MSOE, MCW-MARQ) students
Q: How do I obtain remote access to library resources?
A: Access to the proxy login depends on which patron user group you are in.
-
MCW faculty, staff, students, residents and post docs use their existing MCW email (MCWCORP) username and password.
-
Volunteer clinical faculty, adjunct faculty and emeritus faculty need to complete this online form to request an account. MCW Libraries will verify status with the Office of Faculty Affairs and the appropriate department prior to creating an account.
-
Qualifying Froedtert, DynaCare and Children’s Hospital staff must make initial application in person with their badge at any one of the MCW Libraries.
-
Blood Research Institute staff are designated for remote access by MCW research staff at the BRI. Contact Michelle Washington, Public Services Librarian, either in person at the Todd Wehr Library by email at mwashington@mcw.edu or at 414-955-8305.
-
Joint degree students must contact Michelle Washington, Public Services Librarian, via email at mwashington@mcw.edu.
Q: I don’t know my MCWCORP (email) username and password.
A: Your MCW username and password is the same as your:
-
Network login to the MCWCORP domain (collaborative services network)
-
Outlook Web Access (owamail.mcw.edu)
-
eBridge login credentials for MCW employees
-
MCW’s Citrix applications (portal.mcw.edu)
Q: Where do users log in?
A: At https://login.proxy.lib.mcw.edu
Q: Can I use VPN for proxy access?
A: No. Close your VPN connection before using the library proxy server. Using both VPN and the proxy server at the same time will result in the inability to access most library resources from off-campus.
Q: I have access via the proxy login. Why is my access changing?
A: The server that manages Remote Access accounts is due to be retired. Integrating proxy access with existing email accounts for MCW faculty, staff, students, residents and post docs eliminates the need to remember a separate username/password for off campus access to library resources. MCW Libraries previously used an internal system to host accounts for authorized Froedtert and Children’s users, so it made sense to expand this system to include volunteer clinical faculty, adjunct faculty, emeritus faculty and BRI staff.
Q: I am a Froedtert/Dynacare or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin staff member. I have been using my barcode number and PIN for remote access. How will this change affect me?
A: It won’t. If you have been accessing resources via the proxy login page by entering the barcode number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) you may continue to do so. The alphanumeric username is an additional option for you to use for access, and you may request one by contacting the Library.
Q: I’m an alumnus/alumna. Why have I lost access?
A. Re-verifying user eligibility is an important part of the change process. In some cases, remote access accounts remained active even after the individual left the Medical College. MCW Libraries may only create accounts in the new remote access system for authorized users.
Unfortunately, alumni do not qualify for remote access under the legal agreements the Medical College has with our journal and database providers. Our licenses with vendors require that individuals who access our resources remotely have a current enrollment, employment or teaching affiliation with MCW. Qualifying affiliations are outlined above.
Alumni are always welcome to visit the Library in person. On-site users have full access to all resources.
Q: Can I pay to have remote access via the proxy server?
A. We are unable to accept any form of payment for proxy access.
Q: What do I do if I forget or have trouble with my password?
A: You can contact the Library Systems Help Desk at 414-955-4290 during business hours. Evenings and weekends, you can call the Circulation Desk at 414-955-8300. If you have questions about your MCW email password, contact MCW Information Services at 414-955-4357 or help@mcw.edu.
