Many resources are available at MCW Libraries and on the internet for finding statistical data on injuries. Finding statistics is often a difficult process for various reasons including the difficulty and time involved in data collection. Books and Journals: The journal MMWR (Morbidity and Moraly Weekly Report) Surveillance Summaries is a means for CDC programs to disseminate surveillance findings, permitting detailed interpretation of trends and patterns based on those findings. MMWR Weekly Report contains data on specific diseases and injuries as reported by state and territorial health departments. Web Sites:
CDC Wonder CDC Wonder is an online resource that "provides a single access point to a wide variety of reports and numeric public health data" including Injury Mortality Data.
Injury Prevention Web Offers links to additional injury resources including advocacy, professional and government associations and statistics. National Center for Health Statistics Includes statistical data, surveys and data collection systems and links to other statistical resources> National Center for Injury Prevention and Control NCIPC provides injury fact sheets on various topics including childhood injuries, falls, poisonings, and youth violence. NCIPC also offers injury maps and WISQARS (Web based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System). National Center for Statistics and Analysis, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Provides data on specific topics including alcohol, children, and pedestrians from 1993 to the present. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration The NHTSA is the federal agency responsible for reducing deaths and injuries from motor vehicle crashes. National Injury Information Clearinghouse Disseminates statistics and information relating to the prevention of death and injury associated with consumer products. National Safety Council The National Safety Council is a non-for-profit, charitable, international public service organization dedicated to educating and influencing people to prevent accidental injuries and deaths. State of Wisconsin Injury Statistics Source for Wisconsin injury statistics including injury mortality and hospitalization data. US Department of Transportation, TransStats Easy access across many datasets including Fatality Analysis Reporting System and detailed accidents, vehicle, and person level information.
