MCW Libraries Third Party Submitter Service

MCW Libraries provides a third party submitter service to help MCW authors comply with the NIH Public Access Policy. This service is available at no cost to MCW authors whose final, peer-reviewed manuscripts must comply with the NIH policy.

MCW Libraries will submit your manuscript to PubMed Central via NIHMS on your behalf. Before MCW Libraries can submit your manuscript we will need confirmation that the author retained the right to comply with the NIH policy.

Information and Materials Needed for Submission:

• Author name and email
• Title of journal
• Title of manuscript
• Publisher statement on Revised NIH Public Access Policy OR copy of signed publisher copyright form allowing for submission under NIH policy
• Grant number(s)
• Manuscript files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TIFF, JPEG, PDF, etc)
• Supplemental data or images associated with manuscript
• Embargo/publication delay period: how long after publication can the journal article be made available in PubMed Central as specified by the publisher; 12 months is the maximum embargo period as per NIH policy. 

Please send all necessary materials to MCW Libraries at asklib@mcw.edu. After submission is completed, the PI will receive an email from NIHMS requesting review and approval of the submitted manuscript. The PI must respond to this email.  MCW Libraries will send the PI the NIHMS reference number for use in NIH progress reports. The PubMed Central Reference Number (PMCID) will be emailed to the PI when final posting is completed by NIHMS.

Please note:
Beginning with May 25, 2008 anyone submitting an application, proposal or progress report to the NIH must include the PubMed Central reference number when citing articles arising from their NIH funded research. This includes applications submitted to the NIH for the May 25, 2008 and subsequent due dates.
