National Traffic Statistics (from 2010 Traffic Safety Facts)
•A total of 32,885 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in 2010. Another 2.24 million people were injured.
•Over 5 million police-reported motor vehicle crashes occurred in the United States in 2010.
•In 2010, an average of one person died every 16 minutes in a motor vehicle crash.
•Thirty-one percent of fatal crashes in 2010 involved alcohol. Drivers 21 to 24 years of age were the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes at 34%.

Wisconsin Traffic Crash Statistics (from 2011 Wisconsin Traffic Crash Facts)
• 565 persons were killed in Wisconsin motor vehicle traffic crashes. This is an average of just over one life lost each day on Wisconsin traffic arteries.
• 40,144 persons were injured in 28,965 reported injury crashes and 515 fatal crashes. 3,534, or 9%, of those injured were known at the time of the crash to have sustained incapacitating injuries.
• 52% of persons killed in passenger car and light truck crashes (for instances in which safety belt use could be determined) were not using safety restraints.
• Of the 565 persons killed, 40% died in alcohol-related crashes, 29% died in speed-related crashes and 16% died in crashes that involved both speed and alcohol.
• 88% of all motorcyclists killed in crashes were not wearing helmets.
