History of Medicine –

MCW Libraries’ Resource of the Month for December 2012

Studying the history of medicine is of vital importance as scholars and researchers continue to look ahead to the future of medicine.  By looking at where we’ve been, we can develop an appreciation and understanding of where we’re going.  We may also discover old answers to new questions, as long as the resources are available.  The MCW Libraries, through several methods, are helping to make sure that the history of both the Medical College and the history of medicine in general are preserved and accessible.

MCW Libraries Resources:

• History of Medicine Center - conference room/classroom and home to the History of Medicine Archives Vault (houses the MCW Archives, the Milwaukee Academy of Medicine collection, and the History of Medicine collection).
• MCW Libraries Digital Collections: the MCW Heritage Portrait Gallery, the MCW History Collection, and the Armand J. Quick, M.D., Ph.D. Collection.  Additional collections are under development.

(Note: the National Library of Medicine history of medicine exhibit “Harry Potter’s World” will be on display in the Todd Wehr Library through most of December—January.)
