Document Delivery Services
For Non-Profit Uses

MCW Libraries provides document delivery services to the user groups in the table below.  If the document delivery request involves making copies of an item which is protected by copyright law, the user must read and agree to the copyright statement1.

  • Document delivery requests from MCW, CHW, or FH faculty, staff and students are accepted via our Library on Request service.  Due to copyright law restrictions, we cannot accept requests via phone or any other method other than these ordering systems.
  • A maximum of 5 document delivery requests are processed per person per day.  Additional requests will be filled as time permits.
  • Requests are usually filled within 3 business days if the item is available in MCW Libraries (internal document delivery); 5-10 days otherwise (Interlibrary Loan).
  • MCW Libraries follows U.S. copyright guidelines.  Interlibrary Loan policies (PDF) and internal document delivery policies (PDF) have been reviewed by MCW Legal Counsel.

1The copyright law of the United States (Title 17. United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy/reproduction is not to be "USED FOR ANY PURPOSES OTHER THAN PRIVATE STUDY, SCHOLARSHIP, or RESEARCH." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes IN EXCESS of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

3Fees listed represent fees without copyright royalties or other additional fees which may be charged if the document cannot be obtained via normal interlibrary loan channels.  Documents are always obtained from the least expensive sources.  Users are able to indicate the amount of money they are willing to pay on the document delivery request form.  If the fees would surpass that amount, the user is notified.

  • Students are enrolled in a program which is supported by one of the three institutions.
  • Faculty and staff are paid by one of the three institutions and work on the MRMC campus or have admitting privileges at CHW.
  • Residents may physically be located at another institution, but they are enrolled in an MCWAH residency program.
  • Staff at Dynacare labs that are located on the MRMC campus.
Volunteer Clinical Faculty
  • Health professionals who are not paid by MCW, FH, or CHW, but are appointed by the MCW Office of Faculty Affairs to serve as volunteer clinical faculty.
Local area (southeast WI) health professionals/employees at other MRMC institutions other than MCW/CHW/FH
  • Health professionals who are not paid by MCW, FH, or CHW and are in the area (Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Washington, Waukesha counties).
  • Health professionals that are part of Froedtert Health hospitals other than Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
  • Staff at institutions that are on the MRMC campus other than MCW/CHW/FH such as Curative, Mental Health Complex, or Advanced Healthcare.
Non-affiliated, non-local health professionals/patients and families/students at other schools/The Public
  • Health professionals who are outside of the southeast Wisconsin region and do not fall into one of the categories above.
  • This group of users will be referred to their local public or school library if possible. 
  • The documents requested must be used for PRIVATE STUDY, SCHOLARSHIP, or RESEARCH.
