Library Services for Volunteer Clinical Faculty Members

Medical College of Wisconsin Volunteer Clinical Faculty are welcome to use the resources of the MCW Libraries.  For help using the library or questions about our services, please contact the Todd Wehr Library Reference Desk at (414) 955-8302 or send e-mail to asklib@mcw.edu.

Remote or Online Services Available from the MCW Libraries*

1. Access to over 3,100 full-text electronic journal subscriptions.
2. Access to over 800 electronic books.
3. Access to online databases such as Ovid MEDLINE, PsycINFO, DynaMed, Essential Evidence Plus and more.
4. Access to Clinical Resources web page which offers a group of medical resources and tools often requested for patient care, education and research. 
5. Online catalog of all library holdings.
6. Reference service via e-mail at asklib@mcw.edu or via phone at (414) 955-8302.  Reference service is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays.

*Most of the electronic journals, electronic books and databases are only available online from the MCW Network.  A login is required which is created with every Volunteer Clinical Faculty appointment confirmed by the Office of Faculty Affairs.  Upon receipt of login, use the library's proxy server to access the resources.

In-person Services from the MCW Libraries

1. Access to library resources on-site.  The MCW Libraries offer access to over a quarter million physical items, over 3,100 electronic journals and books, and 78 databases.
2. Reference service which is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays.
3. Check-out of material with an MCW Library card.  Volunteer clinical faculty will be issued a library card upon confirmation of their status by the Office of Faculty Affairs.  Most books can be borrowed for 4 weeks.  Up to 5 renewals for loans are possible. 
4. Classes on library resources.

Document Delivery Services from the MCW Libraries

1. Scan and electronic delivery of an article from MCW Libraries collections.  No charge.  Online or paper request form must be filled out to complete the request.*
2. Photocopy of an article from MCW Libraries collections.  $5.00 per item charge.  $5.00 additional charge if rush service (24-48 hour) is requested.  Online or paper request form must be filled out to complete the request.* 
3. Photocopy from other libraries.  $10.00 per item minimum charge.  $5.00 additional charge if rush service (24-48 hour) is requested.  Online or paper request form must be filled out to complete the request.*
4. Loan of book or other material from other libraries.  $10.00 per item minimum charge.  Volunteer Clinical Faculty member must apply for an MCW Library card to use this service.  Online or paper request form must be filled out to complete the request.*
