Global Health

The Global Health Pathway is designed for students interested in understanding the special healthcare needs of patients in or from developing countries, and the challenges of working in areas of the world with limited resources. 
Core curriculum topics are consistent with those proposed by U.S. national organizations that have long been on the forefront of global health education and research. The curriculum will highlight the special expertise and experiences of MCW faculty and staff in the broad field of global health. Pathway activities are coordinated with the office of the Associate Dean for Global Health. Opportunities for local and international clinical, research or service learning experiences are available.

• Disaster management
• Clinical tropical medicine
• Health care delivery systems in other countries
• Non communicable diseases
• Women's Health and Human Trafficking
• Working with Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and cross-cultural communications
• Integrative Medicine
• Preparing for work overseas
• Malnutrition
• Ophthalmology and Dermatology
• Medical Anthropology
• HIV/AIDS
   

Non-core Individual Activities include:

• Working in local clinics and with organizations that serve immigrant, refugee or non-US born patients.
• Researching and studying specific global health issues
• Developing and implementing health education initiatives in the community
• Learning about opportunities on overseas experiences during summer and spring breaks
• Basic science topics: vaccine development, toxins, drug discovery for neglected tropical diseases, immunopathogens of infectious diseases
