Mission

The mission of the Medical College of Wisconsin's Master of Public Health Program (MPH) is to enhance the health of the public through educational and leadership development of a diverse public health work force, and through academic and community partnerships dedicated to both community-based research and service that will enhance human health.

Program Goals

The overall goals to fulfill the mission fall into four categories that include leadership, education, research and service.

Leadership

  • Provide an MPH Degree Program that fosters diversity through collaboration among academicians, researchers, community practitioners/organizations and students.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a resource in addressing and communicating current and emerging public health problems and issues.


Education

  • Provide students with the opportunities to apply health concepts that serve as the basis for better health for the public.
  • Provide graduates with the competencies that establish a foundation for Program assessment, Program implementation, Program evaluation, research strategies, and policy development.
  • Foster ongoing professional development of students.
  • Provide opportunities for the development of cultural competency in public health.
  • Conduct an annual evaluation of Program activities to assure that the needs of students are met and that students are provided with the most current concepts and skills in health care research and practice.


Research

  • Conduct, teach and communicate community-based research and scholarship by building partnerships among faculty, students, practitioners, and members of the community affiliated with the MPH Degree Program.


Service

  • Provide service that meets public health needs in collaboration with community organizations.
  • Provide an MPH Degree Program that fosters diversity through collaboration among academicians, researchers, community practitioners/organizations and students.


PROGRAM VALUES

The Master of Public Health Degree Program faculty, students, and staff are committed to the over-arching principle of respect for the dignity and worth of people regardless of gender, race, religious or ethnic affiliations, or social standing. Program values are reflected in:

  • Community-based learning, community-based research, and community-based service.
  • Strengthening academic and community partnerships.
  • Infusing core competencies into didactic courses and other learning experiences.
  • Providing the knowledge and skills necessary to develop leaders who will foster the health of the public.
  • Fostering professional diversity to meet the changing public health needs of a community.
  • Emphasizing moral and principled precepts that underlie goals of the public health profession.
