A Message from the Director:
Joseph T. Barbieri, PhD

There is a national shortage of physician-scientists who can care for patients and conduct state-of-the-art research. The mission of the MSTP (MD-PhD) at the Medical College of Wisconsin is to support medical and research training leading to the combined MD-PhD degree. Our MSTP is partially supported by a T-32 training grant from the NIH. We welcome all applicants including those with an international background and students of diversity. Our MSTP will assist and support your education and reduce the cost associated with your training experience.

" The Medical College of Wisconsin is one of 45 MD-PhD Programs that have been awarded a training grant (Medical Scientist Training Grant) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). This training grant recognized the quality of our trainees and our programmatic activities for dual degree training. This award has also allows our program to recruit additional students for dual degree training.

MCW has, over the past ten years, consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing research programs, based on NIH funding, among the largest 50 medical school research programs in the U.S. We highly value our MSTP and continue to invest in trainees who are our physician-scientist leaders of the future.
