Annual MSTP Retreat

The Medical Scientist Training Program Annual Retreat was held at the beautiful Lake Lawn Resort in Delevan, Wisconsin.  This retreat is a time for our students to come together with selected faculty and interact to address issues specific to the dual-degree trainee and to socialize in a relaxed environment with fellow students.

Our two speakers were Roy Silverstein, MD “Platelets and thrombosis:  A journey from hematology fellow to department chair” and Stephen Duncan, D. Phil “Using human pluripotent stem cells to study liver disease and development”.

In addition, the Saturday breakout sessions included:

  • Carmen Bergom, MD PhD “A Residency Toolkit for Physician Scientists: Successfully Integrating Research into your Training”

  • Jacquelyn A. Joseph-Silverstein, PhD “Your Career Journey: Navigating the Transition Points”

  • Sridhar Rao, MD PhD “Life after training – being a new PI.”

  • Calvin Williams, MD PhD, “Important concepts in choosing a residency and fellowship

The retreat provides trainees with an opportunity to strengthen friendships while dealing with topics that are pertinent to their career planning.  We are definitely looking forward to the next one!
