Brief Clinical/Research Statement:

Dr. Butson specializes in the engineering design and clinical application of neurostimulation technology. His laboratory researches the use of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and cortical stimulation to treat movement disorders, epilepsy and other diseases. This research is conducted using a combination of human clinical studies and patient-specific computational models. The primary goals of his research are to improve the effectiveness of existing neurostimulation systems and to develop new technology to treat a broader range of patients, some of whom have few treatment options.
