Vehicle Crashworthiness Laboratory

The Vehicle Crashworthiness Laboratory (VCL) consists of a test track, towing device, dummy storage and calibration laboratory, data acquisition, processing systems, and high-speed cameras.  The impact area is housed in 80-ft x 100-ft crash laboratory at one end of the test track.  This building houses the control room containing the instrumentation devices along with other equipment and the vehicle preparation room.  The dummy calibration and performance verification laboratory is also housed in the crash laboratory.  Both the test track and test pad are completely enclosed inside their respective buildings.  The VCL’s test track is leveled (FF=50; FL=30) with laser precision.  The impact area has high-intensity lighting and is fully enclosed and temperature/humidity controlled.  There is adequate space for the various requirements (e.g., calibration, preparation of vehicle, storage).
