Surgery as a Last Resort

At SpineCare, surgery is considered only when non-operative treatment has no role or has failed – and that makes us different. While surgery is an option for some patients with specific conditions, it is not a one-size-fits- all solution. Surgery carries its own risks, and should only be tried after other more conservative treatments have failed. In fact, less than 5 percent of our patients undergo surgery, while 12 percent of patients in a comparable population undergo surgery for back problems. The reason our surgery rate is so low is that most SpineCare patients get better without surgery.

Evidence-Based Approach

One of the benefits of being part of a leading-edge academic medical center is that we know what works and we have the evidence to prove it. Individualized treatment programs are based on this evidence. And we ask patients to participate in surveys on how the program is working.
