During the four years of residency, each of the applicants will spend approximately an equal amount of time at each campus. Each of the three campuses in the residency has a long tradition of undergraduate and graduate medical education. Residency education at these three centers provides a diverse experience ranging from common obstetrical and gynecologic encounters to tertiary referral problems.
Each of the three sites have inpatient services for both obstetrics and gynecology. In addition, there are subspecialty services at one or more of the sites (depending on the subspecialty). Appropriately certified faculty supervises each clinical activity and is responsible for teaching rounds, surgical supervision and overall patient management. The fulltime faculty is composed of academic physicians active in teaching patient care and research. Volunteer faculty consists of a large number of obstetrician gynecologists in private practice, many of whom have special interests and expertise.
Residents in each year are assigned to an obstetrics, gynecology or subspecialty service for 6-8 week blocks of time. During each rotation, residents care for patients in the outpatient clinic, the labor and delivery suite, inpatient units and or in the operating room. Resident activities in all of these areas are supervised by the appropriate faculty.
