As we transition from the warm days of summer to the briskness of fall and leave behind baseball season to embrace football, we at the Eye Institute are also making a change. The Eye Institute lobby is in the process of being remodeled to provide a more inviting and comfortable environment for patients and visitors. The design, crafted by Epstein Uhen Architects of Milwaukee, includes a lounge area with a new donor recognition wall and a dedicated food service space for beverage and snack sales.
Aesthetically the design will create a warmer look and feel for patients when they enter, and functionally it will create a more accessible and comfortable location for guests to wait for rides. Another design feature of the project, a canopy over the entrance, will provide additional shelter from the elements as visitors enter and exit the building, as well as offering a clear marking for the building entrance.
Construction is occurring over two phases and is planned to be completed by the end of January. Access to the building through the current entrance will be maintained except for two brief periods when the canopy is set in place. During those times, visitors will be directed around the corner to the Eye Institute connector entrance on the South side of the building.
We are also in the process of remodeling our 8th floor to accommodate our growing research faculty. We are excited about these changes and hope they offer our patients and visitors a more comfortable experience when they visit us.
