RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Internship

A one-year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is offered in preparation for residency.  This internship includes both outpatient and inpatient exposure, and at home facial trauma and dental call.

Residency

The residency training program is a forty-eight month residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery accredited by the American Dental Association (Commission on Dental Accreditation).  One resident is accepted per academic year and upon successful completion of the program, a certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is awarded.

Eligible applicants must be graduates of accredited U.S. or Canadian Dental Schools, have successfully passed Parts I and II of the National Board examination, and have passed one of the dental regional board examinations within 18 months after their start date.

In preparation for board eligibility, residents spend a significant amount of time rotating through medical fields such as surgical intensive care unit, internal medicine, trauma, anesthesiology, general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and emergency medicine.  Residents participate in grand rounds, facial trauma conference, orthognathic conference, weekly morbidity and mortality series, and clinical pathology correlation courses.  The residency program is noted nationally for its variety of cases and recognized faculty.  See Rotation Schedule
