Dr. Birmingham is a specialist in arthroscopic surgical treatment of hip, shoulder, knee, and elbow injuries, and is an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He practices at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and the Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Center.

After completion of residency at George Washington University, Dr. Birmingham completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which was ranked in 2009 as second in the nation in Orthopaedics by U.S. News & World Report.

During his fellowship, Dr. Birmingham served as Assistant Team Physician for the New York Giants, and concentrated his training on Hip Sports Injuries and Arthroscopy under the direction of Dr. Bryan Kelly.

He also researched the biology of tendon to bone healing as it relates to rehabilitation of sports injuries after surgery.
