After over 30 years in private practice and serving as a volunteer clinical professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Thomas J. Flatley has joined the full time faculty as a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Flatley obtained his undergraduate degree from Marquette University and his doctor of medicine degree from Marquette University School of Medicine. His internship was served at the University of Minnesota and his orthopaedic residency in the Milwaukee Orthopaedic Residency Program. At the same time, he completed a master of science degree in physiology.

He holds clinical appointments at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, St. Francis, St. Joseph's and Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospitals. He has served as president of the Milwaukee Surgical Society and the Wisconsin Orthopaedic Society. He has also served on the executive, governing staff and joint conference committees at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the credentials and executive committees at Sinai Samaritan Hospital. His major research interests concern the use of synthetic bone substitutes as an adjunct to spinal fusions and fracture healing, new methods of internal fixation for spinal instability and implantable bone growth stimulators in spinal fusions.

Dr. Thomas Flatley is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the department.
