Dr. Koethe received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from San Diego State University. She completed her PhD in Immunology at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. Following her PhD training, Dr. Koethe relocated to Milwaukee in 1974 and was awarded a United States Public Health Service Postdoctoral Fellowship to study complement activation in Sickle Cell disease. This work was carried out in the Department of Pathology at Medical College of Wisconsin. She joined the faculty in Pathology 1976 and was promoted to full professor in 1992.
Dr. Koethe’s PhD thesis: "Activation of the Alternative Complement Pathway" was the basis of a career-long interest in immunochemistry, inflammation and inflammatory mediators. Throughout her career, Dr. Koethe has also been involved with directing clinical laboratory services and currently is Associate Medical Director for Dynacare Laboratories affiliated with Froedtert Hospital and MCW. Dr. Koethe also has been actively involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education and curriculum development.
