Pathology Training Programs

Arjun Rao, MDWelcome to the pathology training programs page of the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is a free standing, private medical school located on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Campus. This campus is home to two of our three primary teaching hospitals: Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, a 600-bed adult, full-service, tertiary academic medical center; and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, a 300 bed pediatric facility that is part of the Children’s Miracle Network, recently named the number three children’s hospital in the nation by Parents Magazine. Our third major teaching partner is the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, located just 15 minutes away from the main medical campus. Additional training occurs at the world-renowned Blood Center of Wisconsin and the Medical Examiner’s Offices of Milwaukee county.

The MCW Department of Pathology boasts first class facilities to promote excellence in patient care, teaching, and scholarly activities. Our newly renovated resident office space provides each resident with his or her own workspace equipped with computer, telephone, microscope, and digital camera. The resident office also contains a 10-headed microscope to facilitate inter-resident teaching and study. A departmental translation research core facility and a full-fledged tissue procurement and banking facility are under development, each of which will support departmental and campus human-tissue research programs. Dynacare, our in-house hospital laboratory, also functions as a regional reference laboratory, and provides support for all of our AP and CP teaching activities.

The work environment of the Department of Pathology is collegial, with open faculty doors and a supportive culture. All laboratories and offices are concentrated in our dedicated laboratory building immediately adjacent to both of our main teaching hospitals, providing for efficient work flow, further enhanced by outstanding, highly professional technical and administrative support.

Finally, Milwaukee residents know that our community is the best-kept secret in the Midwest. Milwaukee is large enough to boast a full range of cultural, dining, and recreational activities, yet small enough to be livable, comfortable, and affordable. The Medical Campus is located in suburban Milwaukee, but is just minutes from our vibrant downtown, the beautiful lakefront, the museum and cultural districts, the professional sports venues, and the nationally renowned Milwaukee County Zoo. For those with children, Milwaukee is a great place to raise kids, with endless recreational and educational opportunities, and excellent public school systems only minutes from the medical campus. For those who enjoy boating, fishing, sailing, biking, or any other outdoor activities, the state of Wisconsin is an outdoorsman’s paradise.

We hope that you will consider us for your post-graduate training in pathology and pay us a visit in Milwaukee!
