Thomas M. Kidder, MD, FACS
Professor
Chief, Division of Adult and Pediatric General Otolaryngology
Department of Otolaryngology & Communication Sciences
Dr. Kidder is a general otolaryngologist who cares for both adults and children with ear, nose, and throat disorders. He was in the private practice of otolaryngology in Milwaukee for 17 years before accepting a full-time faculty position at MCW in 1990.
He is fully engaged in clinical and surgical patient care at Froedtert Hospital, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and the Zablocki VA Medical Center.
In addition to his teaching of residents and medical students, he performs a number of administrative and academic functions at MCW and for state and national professional societies.
He is a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army and served as an otolaryngologist during the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars, respectively.
Dr. Kidder's practice style is based on two principles: (1) a careful assessment of the patient's problem, based on listening to the patient, and, (2) an explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options in terms the individual patient can understand.
His main professional interests include: general ear, nose and throat disorders; voice disorders, including the use of Botox for spasmodic dysphonia; swallowing problems; chronic sinus disease, especially when complicated by headache, cystic fibrosis, asthma and other medical conditions; ENT problems in the developmentally disabled; medical-legal cases; management of pain and other symptoms in patients with advanced or incurable head and neck cancer; and, the education of medical students, residents, primary care physicians, allied health professionals and the public in health and medical issues related to otolaryngology. He is the otolaryngologist on the Cleft Palate Team at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
