Mission Statement

The mission of the Medical College of Wisconsin Pediatric Educational Program is to educate residents and medical students to be ethical and compassionate, provide excellent care, communicate clearly, advocate effectively for children and be ready for a lifetime of self-directed learning.

Our programs will provide excellent comprehensive training, enabling residents and students to develop to their fullest potential and to pursue general pediatrics or further academic endeavors.

The Children's Bill of Rights

  • Every child has the right to affection, love and understanding.
  • Every child has the right to adequate nutrition and medical care.
  • Every child has the right to protection against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation.
  • Every child has the right to free education and full opportunity for play and recreation.
  • Every child has the right to name and nationality.
  • Every child has the right to special care if handicapped.
  • Every child has the right to be among the first to receive relief in times of disaster.
  • Every child has the right to preserve his or her own identity and freedom of expression and thought.
  • Every child has the right to enjoy his or her own culture, profess and practice his or her own religion, and use his or her own language.
  • Every child has the right to live without the dangers and risks of environmental pollution.
  • Every child has the right to live free of discrimination based on sex, race, color, language, religion, political opinion, nationality, ethnic or social origin, disability, property or birth status.
  • Every child has the right to live in a free society in the spirit of understanding, peace, tolerance, equality and friendship among all people.

Based on Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, Nov. 20, 1989.
